PEER-TO-PEER MENTORSHIP

Empowering Students Through Structured Peer-to-Peer Mentorship

Access is just the beginning. At Excel@Uni, we believe lasting success comes from the right support, structure, and meaningful guidance. That’s why we offer a deeply personalised and data-driven peer-to-peer mentoring experience, designed to help students thrive academically, personally, and professionally.

Unlike typical mentorship programs, our mentorship is built for impact, accountability, and measurable growth. Here's a summary of how we make it work:

STRUCTURED FOR IMPACT

  • Each student begins the year by developing a Personal Development Plan (PDP), which forms the basis for their mentorship journey.

  • Monthly check-ins between mentors and mentees focus on progress against this plan, offering structure, reflection, and real growth.

RELEVANT AND RELATABLE MENTORS

  • Students are paired with senior peer mentors, graduates from the same university and field of study who completed their degrees within the last three years.

  • These mentors offer relevant insights and relatable experiences, bridging the gap between student life and the world of work.

TRAINING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • All mentors are trained to use the Excel@Uni mentorship system, enabling detailed progress tracking.

  • After each session, students rate their mentors and only those maintaining a high satisfaction rating continue as mentors on the program. Our current average is 91%.

HOLISTIC STUDENT SUPPORT

  • Mentorship sessions cover academic progress, career preparation, and overall well-being.

  • Students are encouraged to reflect deeply on their studies, future plans, and the impact they want to make in their communities, often leading to transformative conversations.

ON-DEMAND ACCESS TO MENTORS

  • Beyond scheduled sessions, students can reach out to their mentors for advice on opportunities such as internships, leadership roles, or other academic and professional matters.

ACTIONABLE REPORTING FOR FUNDERS

  • Funders receive monthly mentorship summaries and direct engagement with our Mentor Manager.

  • In-depth reports provide visibility into each student’s academic, professional, and psychosocial journey, helping program managers spot trends and identify where additional support is needed.

WHY IT MATTERS

Mentorship isn’t a checkbox at Excel@Uni, it’s a critical pillar of our student success model. By offering consistent, quality mentorship and detailed insight, we help students move forward with clarity and confidence while providing our partners with the tools to deliver truly impactful interventions.
