The African Union Launches Decade of Education and Skills Development 2025–2034
AFRICAN UNION
At PACTED 2025 in Addis Ababa, the African Union Commission unveiled a transformative agenda, the Decade of Education and Skills Development (2025–2034), anchored on six strategic frameworks aimed at reimagining Africa’s learning ecosystem. This initiative aligns with Agenda 2063’s vision of “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa” and seeks to harness Africa’s youth dividend through equitable, innovative, and inclusive education.
The frameworks prioritize teacher development, digital learning, technical and vocational training, STEM education, early childhood care, and higher education governance. They call for stronger partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society to align education outcomes with the continent’s economic and technological needs.

The AU emphasized that Africa’s transformation depends on how effectively it invests in its people, especially young learners who will drive the Fourth Industrial Revolution. By integrating innovation, research, and entrepreneurship into education, the Decade aims to prepare African youth not just for jobs but for leadership in global value chains.
Member states are encouraged to localize these frameworks through national implementation plans, backed by continental monitoring and resource mobilization mechanisms. The AU’s message is clear. Africa’s future prosperity lies in classrooms, training centres, and universities that nurture problem solvers, innovators, and ethical leaders.
Excel@Uni applauds the African Union’s proactive leadership and urges all education stakeholders, both public and private, to align their efforts with this historic vision for Africa’s learners.
